Woman Hit, Killed in Pedestrian Accident in Columbia

Sadly, a woman was recently killed in a pedestrian accident in Columbia. The fatal accident occurred on the afternoon of June 28 in the 500 block of South Beltline Boulevard.
A vehicle was heading south on South Beltline Boulevard when it hit the pedestrian. The impact caused the woman to be thrown into an embankment. The Columbia Police Department arrived at the scene to find a woman with critical injuries. She was taken to a local hospital for emergency trauma care, but later died.
The Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene as well.
The driver remained at the accident scene and there is no evidence that the driver was impaired. Investigators are reviewing camera footage to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The investigation is still underway.
