Seasoning Sold at SC Walmart Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk

Seasoning

Surprisingly, even a small amount of contaminated food can be enough to make someone very ill.

A nationwide recall has been issued for certain Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning products sold at Walmart stores in South Carolina due to possible salmonella contamination.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Blackstone Products voluntarily recalled specific lots of its 7.3-ounce Parmesan Ranch seasoning after learning that a dry milk powder ingredient used in the product may have been contaminated with salmonella. The milk powder was supplied by California Dairies, Inc. and used by a third-party manufacturer.

The recall applies to Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning bottles marked with item number #4106 and the following lot numbers and “Best If Used By” dates:

  • Lot 2025-43282: Best If Used By July 2, 2027
  • Lot 2025-46172: Best If Used By August 5, 2027
  • Lot 2026-54751: Best If Used By August 12, 2027

The affected products were sold nationwide at Walmart stores and through the Blackstone Products website. This dry milk recall has been linked to other products that have been recently recalled, including pizza, potato chips, and snack mixes.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall so far. However, salmonella can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, the infection can spread into the bloodstream and lead to more serious complications.

Consumers are being advised not to use the recalled seasoning and to dispose of it immediately. Customers with questions or seeking replacement products can contact Blackstone Products at (888) 879-4610.

Why is Salmonella Contamination So Common?

Salmonella contamination is relatively common because the bacteria are widespread in the environment and can spread easily through modern food production and handling systems. Even small mistakes during farming, processing, transportation, or food preparation can allow contamination to occur.

Salmonella bacteria commonly live in the intestines of poultry, cattle, pigs, reptiles, and wild animals. Animals may carry the bacteria without appearing sick, which means contamination can occur during slaughter, egg production, or food processing. Chicken, turkey, and eggs are among the most common sources because salmonella can contaminate meat and egg shells.

Also, modern food systems distribute products nationwide. If contamination occurs at a farm, a processing facility, a packaging plant, or a spice manufacturer, the affected food may quickly reach thousands of stores across multiple states before the problem is discovered.
